Official: Barden should keep commitment

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "Majestic Star Casino owner Don Barden should keep his $3 million commitment to Pittsburgh -- but not necessarily the Hill District, where he did not get development rights, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato said today.

"Onorato said he and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl hope to meet with Barden Wednesday to discuss proposed changes for the North Shore slots parlor and his commitments to the city.

"...Barden's PITG Gaming is building Majestic Star on the North Shore.

"During the 2006 slots bidding process, Barden offered to direct $1 million a year for three years to the Hill District. Last week he petitioned the state Gaming Control Board to allow him to back out of the commitment and make other changes to his plans for the North Shore slots parlor. The board has to approve the changes for them to take effect..."
