Off-Reservation Casino Proposed in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE -- As reported by the Associated Press: "Santa Fe art dealer and entrepreneur Gerald Peters, who saw his bid for a southern New Mexico racetrack and casino fizzle 10 months ago, says he's now pushing for an Indian Pueblo-sponsored casino in the Mesilla Valley.

"Jemez Pueblo will begin the application process with the U.S. Interior Department and eventually negotiate an Indian gaming compact with the governor of New Mexico, Peters and lobbyist Tom Rutherford said.

"Though Jemez is near Albuquerque, a site in southern New Mexico's Mesilla Valley will be chosen to tap the metropolitan market..."
