Odds Against West Virginia Gambling Bill

WEST VIRGINIA – As reported by the West Virginia Intelligencer: "Those who would like the opportunity to play legal blackjack, poker, craps roulette or other forms of table gambling at West Virginia race tracks will probably have to wait at least until next year.

"Bills introduced in the state House of Delegates and Senate didn't make it out of their respective legislative committees in time to be considered by either legislative body during the regular legislative session.

"Senate Bill 548 was sponsored solely by Sen. Andy McKenzie, R-Ohio. It did not make it out of the Senate Judiciary Committee, to which it was initially assigned, by the 50th day of the legislative session as required. The 50th day was March 3.

"…Tamara Pettit, director of public relations for Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort, agreed that passing table gambling legislation is not likely this year, but she added it is not impossible…"
