Odds Against Amherst Casino Plan11 March 2005AMHERST, Ohio – As reported by the Ohio Morning Journal: "It's probably a good bet that most members of Amherst City Council either don't like the idea of casinos along the lakefront in Lorain, or don't really care, but because they didn't have to put their cards on the table no one knows for certain. "Asked initially by Lorain Mayor Craig Foltin to back the casino project when it met on Monday, an Amherst City Council committee instead ended up tabling a resolution supporting the plan after Foltin later requested that no vote be taken until he could provide additional information, according to at least two council members. "Although the resolution was tabled, had a vote actually been taken on supporting the casino project, some council members believe it would have lost by the same margin or worse than the 4-3 vote to table the resolution. "…Some members of Lorain City Council, which voted 9-1 to approve the project on Monday, shrugged off Amherst's apparent opposition. "…As it stands now, many of the Amherst council members are opposed to Lorain getting a casino, according to Amherst Councilman Mark Costilow…" |
