Obama uses AC dealers as example15 May 2007TRENTON, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "U.S. Sen. Barack Obama on Monday offered Atlantic City as an example of why union workers need a change of direction from Washington, D.C. "The Illinois senator shared the stage with a union-organizing dealer at an Atlantic City casino and a nurse's aide at a Pleasantville nursing home, who asked the first questions of the Democratic presidential contender at an AFL-CIO town hall-style meeting. "The two Atlantic City-area workers were chosen to ask Obama about two key issues: the right to organize and affordable health care. "…Sharon Masino, of Galloway Township, a dealer at Caesars Atlantic City since 1994, told Obama she faced intimidation from casino brass when she helped lead efforts to join the United Auto Workers Union. Dealers at Caesars and Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino voted to unionize in March and dealers at other casinos have since launched similar efforts. "…Obama promised to sign the Employee Free Choice Act, establishing stronger penalties for violating the rights of employees seeking to form a union, and providing mediation and arbitration for first-contract disputes.
