NZ tavern wins pokie fight

NEW ZEALAND – As reported by the Dominion Post: "The co-owner of a Wellington tavern that has won the right to operate pokie machines in an outside smoking area cannot see why it caused any fuss.

"Kilbirnie Tavern's initiative was opposed by the Internal Affairs Department.

"The Gambling Commission then ruled in favour of the tavern, a decision criticised by the Problem Gambling Foundation as a big step backward.

"…The outdoor gaming area is protected from the elements by windproof screens and a low roof but large gaps let air circulate above the screens…"
