NY tribe casino deal moves forward

ALBANY, New York -- As reported by the New York Times Union: "The Cayuga Nation of New York plans today to announce a deal to resolve a long-standing land claim in exchange for the rights to acquire reservation lands in the Finger Lakes and develop a casino.

"People familiar with the agreement say Seneca and Cayuga counties and the Spizer administration are in agreement on the deal. One person briefed on it said the tribe has been interested in building in the Catskills, but another said Gov. Eliot Spitzer's staff is trying to encourage the tribe to consider a casino in central New York.

"...Almost two years ago, the Cayugas petitioned the U.S. Department of Interior to place 150 acres in the Finger Lakes, the tribe's former reservation territory, into trust..."
