NY town wants say in casinos

ULSTER, New York -- As reported by the Freeman: "The Town Board is preparing a resolution that asks state and federal officials to have decisions about Native American casino applications based on local approval.

"Concern over proposed state legislation was discussed during a Town Board meeting Monday, when Supervisor Nick Woerner said TechCity and the former IBM recreation center could be targets for applications for casinos.

"…Woerner said proposed state legislation should be defeated and suggested that laws be written to allow local referendums.

"…Councilman Rocco Secreto agreed that local ballots should be used to determine support for casinos…"
