NSW poker laws under review

NEW SOUTH WALES, Australia -- As reported by the Brisbane Times: Poker game laws are under review in NSW because of an explosion in player numbers, sky-rocketing jackpots, allegations of cheating and the arrival into pubs and clubs of foreign gambling interests.

"The speed of poker's growth - close to 400,000 members joined poker leagues in less than 18 months - is said to be only the beginning of the phenomenon.

"...Government officials have begun an inquiry, and are expected to make recommendations rapidly. 'The review is in response to the growing popularity of poker tournaments,' a spokesman for the regulator said yesterday.

"...While the gaming regulator said it had received 'very few complaints about the conduct and operation of poker tournaments', there have nonetheless been allegations of bent games..."
