Nova Scotia Gambling Revenues Down

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – As reported by the Canadian Press: "Nova Scotians are betting more money than ever, but the provincial government's revenues from gambling are falling due to increased expenses.

"Nova Scotians wagered $1.48 billion in 2003-04, up three per cent from $1.44 billion in 2002-03.

"However, the report also shows that revenues sent to the province in the 2003-2004 year dropped to $182.3 million.

"That's a 7.4 per cent drop from the $196.9 million that gamblers put into provincial coffers in 2002-03.

"The report attributes the decline to bigger prize payouts and increased operating expenses for video lottery terminals and the casinos…"
