Nova Scotia Families Lobby for VLT Ban

NOVA SCOTIA, Canada -- As reported by the CBC: "While the P.E.I. government increases the number of video lottery terminals it operates, the campaign to ban the machines in Nova Scotia is picking up steam.

"The families of five gambling addicts who killed themselves are joining a campaign to ban video lottery terminals.

"Elaine Gabriel's husband Scott was hooked on VLTs and desperately in debt. On the Thanksgiving weekend in 2002, she said he intentionally overdosed on drugs.

"'He had robbed a Rogers Video across the street from where we lived … I don't know, I just don't think he could go on any longer. He probably felt he'd lost everything.'..."
