North Korea Gambling Web Site Blocked26 January 2004NORTH KOREA – As reported by the Korea Times: ``The Seoul government has blocked access to a North Korean online gambling site since last Wednesday, which was gaining popularity among South Koreans for its open bulletin board. ``KT, the nation's Internet network operator said it had cut access to the site www.jupae.com from South Korea at the request of the Information Communication Ethics Committee, the nation's Internet contents censor. ``The Ministry of Unification also revoked the inter-Korean business license of Hoonnet, a South Korean software developer who had set up the website jointly with the North Korean lottery company last Monday. ``The Ministry of Unification said the revocation came after Hoonnet had not abided by the government's instruction to stop running the gambling site. Gambling is prohibited for South Koreans, except only in the Kangwonland casino in the Kangwon Province…" |
