No Iowa casino expansion debate for '07

IOWA – As reported by the Des Moines Register: "State gambling regulators agreed today they won't reopen a debate on whether to issue additional casino licenses until early next year.

"All five members of Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission said they need more time to assess the financial performance of four new casinos that were issued licenses in 2005.

"Three of the news casinos have already opened in Worth County, Emmetsburg and Riverside but the fourth — planned by the Isle of Capri in Waterloo — is not expected to open until late June or early July.

"…Commissioner Diane Hamilton of Storm Lake agreed, pointing out that the commission decided after granting the new licenses in May 2005 that it wanted to give the new casinos some time to be up and operating before introducing the possibility of more competition…"
