No increase in crime after slot machine installation

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- As reported by News 1130: "Another 450 slot machines were added to Hastings Park last year over the objections of neighbours, but new research done by the City of Vancouver suggests they've been mostly harmless, with no increase in crime in the neighbourhood.

"The report goes before city council Thursday. The city admits gambling addiction is still a problem, but the social issues haven't stopped more gambling facilities from opening, like the Grand Villa Casino in Burnaby, and community gaming centres in smaller towns.

"At the same time, the provincial government collected $2.6 billion in gaming revenue last year..."
