No casino talks allowed in Philadelphia city chambers28 August 2007PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania -- As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer: "When the Pennsylvania House Gaming Oversight Committee went looking for a Philadelphia locale to hold its Sept. 11 casino hearings, it figured City Council's grand room was a good bet. "...Prompted by Councilman Jim Kenney, Council this week told state lawmakers they weren't welcome in its chambers, at least not to discuss the casinos. "...In vote after vote, City Council has opposed building the Foxwoods and SugarHouse slots parlors along the Delaware River. "...Last week, the City Planning Commission approved zoning for the Foxwoods casino at a meeting in City Council chambers. The imagery of that day - a green light in Council's room for a casino - is what led Kenney to object to the House committee's plans..." |
