No casino for Salisbury Beach

SALISBURY BEACH, Massachusetts -- As reported by the Newbury Port News: "The state may soon be looking for a community to step up and host a new casino, but that's not in the cards for Salisbury Beach.

"State Treasurer Timothy Cahill is pushing to legalize casino gambling in Massachusetts to beat the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe to the punch. His idea is quickly gaining support from key Statehouse leaders.

"But Salisbury Town Manager Neil Harrington said it won't happen at Salisbury Beach, where casinos were once seen as the dilapidated beachfront's salvation. When Town Meeting approved the new zoning for Salisbury Beach Center in May 2005, it eliminated the possibility of a casino or any gambling facility locating there, he said..."
