No Atlantic City Union Deal Yet

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Talks between the casino union and two companies failed to produce a contract as a potential strike moved closer Monday, but progress apparently was made with the three Trump properties.

"Local 54 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union met with Tropicana Casino and Resort officials in the morning and later in the day with Trump properties representatives.

"…But a late-evening session at the Taj Mahal Casino Resort yielded progress on health and welfare, subcontracting, successorship and other key issues, according to union employee Al Tabei.

"…Contracts with all of the casinos except the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa expire midnight tonight.

"Contract committee members bargaining for the union have warned that, if talks break down, as many as 14,500 workers could go on strike, but Local 54 President Robert McDevitt has repeatedly said that the contract's expiration will not automatically trigger a walkout…"
