No action in NY tribal casino plans7 August 2007NEW YORK -- As reported by the Syracuse Post-Standard: "Cayuga County lawmakers plan to meet with Gov. Eliot Spitzer's legal adviser on Indian affairs next week before deciding on the proposed casino deal with the Cayuga Indian Nation. "That's the bottom line of Tuesday night's special Legislature meeting, which was called to discuss the county's position on the proposed settlement between the tribe and Cayuga and Seneca counties. "...The proposed deal, struck in May, would allow the Cayugas to build and operate a Las Vegas-style casino at a site to be determined somewhere in the state. In exchange, the tribe would agree to a 10,000-acre cap on the amount of land it strips off the tax rolls in both counties, and pay up to $15.3 million a year in casino revenues to both counties and $120 million yearly to the state..." |
