NJ Commission Seeks to Ban Don King

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "When it comes to ducking state gaming requirements, controversial boxing promoter Don King has bobbed and weaved better than any of his fighters. But casino regulators may finally land the big knockout punch on him.

"The state Casino Control Commission is expected to vote today on whether to impose a five-year ban on King that would prevent him from applying for a gaming license to promote Atlantic City fights.

"In arguing for leniency, representatives for King, 72, contend that a five-year prohibition would essentially be a lifetime ban because of his age.

"…King has skirted gaming regulations during the past six years by applying for a casino license, then withdrawing his application before an intense background investigation begins. Simply by applying for a license, he is temporarily allowed to promote casino-sponsored fights - earning millions of dollars in the process.

"Tired of King's fancy footwork, the state Division of Gaming Enforcement is urging the Casino Control Commission to get tough.

"…Commission spokesman Daniel Heneghan said attorneys for the DGE and King will have an opportunity to argue the case before a vote is taken…"
