NJ bill would ensure casinos stay open in shutdown

NEW JERSEY -- As reported by the Bloomberg News: "New Jersey casinos would stay open in the event there is ever another state government shutdown under a bill to be considered today by the state Assembly.

"...Last year's government shutdown furloughed 45,000 state workers and halted lottery sales, motor-vehicle inspections and gambling at Atlantic City casinos, which by law can't operate without state gambling inspectors on duty.

"The measure under consideration today would declare the fund that pays for casino regulation not a part of the state treasury so that they could continue to operate in the event a budget isn't passed by the constitutional deadline..."
