NHL Dispute Hurting BC Lottery

BRITISH COLUBMIA –As reported by the Vancouver Province: "The National Hockey League shutdown is costing the B.C. Lottery Corp. millions of dollars in lost hockey-wagering revenues.

"'[The NHL lockout] is hurting a lot of businesses in British Columbia and we're definitely one of them,' said Jim Lightbody, the corporation's vice-president of marketing.

"'About 40 per cent of Sports Action sales are on hockey wagering.'

"…As a result of the lost income, Lightbody said, Lottery Corp. projections will likely be off by one or two per cent when the fiscal year ends next March 31.

"…The corporation has added European soccer and more U.S. college football and basketball games as well as NBA to its betting mix in order to offset the loss of hockey…"
