New Zealand Taxes to Fund Problem Gambling Program2 September 2004NEW ZEALAND – As reported by the New Zealand Herald: "Gambling bosses will be forced to help pay for treatment for problem gamblers and addicts under a new Government tax. "Casinos, TAB, gaming machine operators and the Lotteries Commission will all have to pay a percentage of their profits with the introduction of the Problem Gambling Levy. "The money will go to the Ministry of Health, after it assumed responsibility for funding and co-ordinating problem gambling services. "In a dual announcement, Internal Affairs Minister George Hawkins and Associate Health Minister Damien O'Connor also said new regulations would be introduced to clamp down on the problems associated with gambling…" |
