New Zealand Poker Warnings Bill Rejected

NEW ZEALAND – As reported by Bloomberg: "A New Zealand parliamentary committee on Monday rejected an attempt by Sky City to scuttle Government plans forcing it to put electronic messages on poker machines warning gamblers how much they have lost.

"The company cut its profit forecast on May 13, sending its stock to the biggest drop in five months, after the Government imposed a $NZ20 limit on the value of bank notes accepted by slot machines and banned smoking in casinos.

"…The Government says the country has 100,000 problem gamblers, or 2.5 per cent of the population, who contribute to about $NZ2 billion ($1.87 billion) in annual gaming losses. Last year it limited the number of poker machines nationwide…"
