New Zealand Gaming Machine Numbers Declining

NEW ZEALAND – As reported by the New Zealand News: "The number of gaming machine numbers in pubs and clubs are continuing to decline since the Gambling Act was passed last September.

"Figures released today by the Department of Internal Affairs show that in the year to June 2004, machine numbers dropped 2724 to 22,497.

"Since September, the number of venues operating machines has dropped at a rate of about 14 every month.

"…Internal Affairs gaming and censorship regulation director Keith Manch said the future of gaming machines would largely depend on city and district councils' policies.

"…Mr Manch said despite some assumptions, the decline in the number of machines didn't necessarily mean less money for community groups through distributions…"
