New Zealand Casino Staff Have to Identify Problem Gamblers

NEW ZEALAND – As reported by the New Zealand Stuff: "New laws to control the growth of gambling will see pub staff obliged to identify and, if necessary, ban gambling addicts for up to two years.

"If they don't, the new rules mean their bosses – the poker machine licence holders – could be fined up to $10,000.

"The new laws take effect at the beginning of next month.

"Internal Affairs Department senior gambling inspector Mike Norden said it would be similar to the way bar staff are obliged not to serve drunken customers and to stop patrons from smoking inside.

"…The new laws make it mandatory for gambling venues to act to minimise or prevent the harm caused by problem gambling…"
