New York Tribe Offers Concessions

NEW YORK – As reported by the New York Post-Standard: "The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma unveiled a series of concessions Tuesday night that it would make in exchange for an out-of-court agreement to build a $25 million high-stakes bingo hall in Aurelius.

"Speaking to the Cayuga County Legislature, Dennis Vacco, the former state attorney general who is representing the tribe, said the Seneca-Cayugas want to negotiate a mutually beneficial settlement so they can start building the gaming hall as soon as possible.

"…Speaking in general terms, Vacco said the tribe is willing to offer the following:

"Making payments in lieu of property taxes to the county, towns of Aurelius and Montezuma and the Union Springs school district.

"Capping the amount of land it acquires in the Cayuga Indian land-claim area, which totals some 64,000 acres around the northern tip of Cayuga Lake.

"…The Seneca-Cayugas are attempting to win federal court approval to build the gaming hall on 229 acres of former reservation land they own at Route 90 and Routes 5 & 20."
