New York Town Votes Against Casino

NEW YORK – As reported by the Hudson Valley News: "The Saugerties Town Board voted unanimously last night to oppose the siting of a casino in the town proposed for the Winston Farm.

"Town Supervisor Greg Helsmoortel had held several meetings with the casino interests when the plan first surfaced and even took steps to inform the public of the plan before developers wanted to announce it.

"Helsmoortel then joined Saugerties Village Mayor Robert Yerick in publicly opposing the siting of the casino in the town and drafted the resolution opposing the project, which he urged the board to sign. He said it was important to get out in front of the process early…"
