New York Officials May Consider VLT Gambling at OTB Sites4 November 2003NEW YORK – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: ``New York budget officials are reviewing a proposal that would allow off-track betting parlors to operate video lottery terminals throughout the state. ``Governor George Pataki proposed VLTs at OTBs during private conversations last year, but lawmakers rejected the idea. With an estimated $14-billion deficit projected over the next two years, however, budget officials are reconsidering a VLT plan that could bring more than 20,000 of the machines across the state that would generate revenues estimated at $2-billion. ``…The Legislature already permits racetracks to operate VLTs, but none of the tracks has installed the machines…" |
