New York Gambling Machines Bring in $1 Million

NEW YORK – As reported by the Buffalo News: "During their first six days in operation, the new electronic gambling machines at Fairgrounds Gaming & Raceway in Hamburg earned nearly $1 million for the state and racing interests, state figures show.

"On each of the first four days, the devices, known as video lottery terminals, drew 6,000 to 7,000 bettors to the establishment on the Erie County Fairgrounds.

"Fairgrounds spokeswoman Lou Ann Delaney described the response to the opening of the gambling rooms with 996 slot machine-like video terminals as 'phenomenal.'

"…Through the close of business Monday, gross receipts totaled $12.2 million, said Carolyn Hapeman, a spokeswoman for the state Lottery Division, which oversees the terminals…"
