New York Counties to Receive Casino Payoffs

NEW YORK – As reported by the Rome Sentinel Online: "The state's deal to allow a pair of out-of-state tribes to open two casinos in the Catskills would have financial payoffs for Oneida and Madison counties.

"Both counties would receive $5 million a year from the revenues generated by the downstate casinos, with a 2 percent annual adjustment for inflation. The money would be paid so long as the casinos are open. By comparison, Oneida County's current budget is $321 million.

"…The deals were reached Tuesday with the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin and the Stockbridge-Munsee Community, Band of Mohican Indians. The tribes agreed to drop land claims in Oneida and Madison counties in exchange for permission to operate one casino each in the state's Catskills resort region, which is less than a two hours drive from New York City…"
