New York casinos to remain closed through 15 May

16 April 2020

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced on 16 April that all NYS on Pause restrictions and closures will be extended until 15 May, including casinos.

This action is taken in consultation with other regional states. The states will re-evaluate after this additional closure period.

"Unpausing New York and reopening our economy is going to be an ongoing process over the coming weeks that we're working through with other states, but we have to do it in a way that doesn't drive up the infection rate and create a second wave of the virus," Governor Cuomo said.

On 20 March, it was announced that indoor portions of retail shopping malls, as well as amusement parks and bowling alleys in the four states would close. Restaurants and bars were closed for on premise service and moved to take-out and delivery services only. The governor also temporarily closed movie theaters, gyms and casinos.
