New Wynn Resort Construction Pace Increased

26 June 2003

by Jeff Simpson

LAS VEGAS -- Wynn Las Vegas resort is adding construction workers at a pace of about 100 every week, with the current total about 1,100, Steve Wynn said Tuesday.

The scale of construction is rapidly increasing toward 2,600 workers, a first taste of the economic engine Wynn Las Vegas is expected to provide in April 2005 when the $2 billion Strip resort is fully staffed for opening with 8,000 employees.

We're a little ahead of schedule," Wynn said. "They're working 24 hours, around the clock. They rebar during the day, and pour (concrete) at night."

The first two floors of the parking garage are already being used for parking by construction workers, and the curving hotel tower has already grown to the 16th floor.

Wynn plans a man-made mountain that will face the main casino building and the inside curve of the hotel tower.

The mountain would enclose a 3-acre lake and provide unique views from a number of vantage points within the hotel-casino.

Wynn Las Vegas is slated to have 2,700 hotel rooms and a 110,000 square-foot casino, 18 restaurants, a new golf course and an on-site, full-service Ferrari and Maserati dealership.

One day after he announced plans to rename the megaresort, scrapping Le Reve in favor of Wynn Las Vegas, the Strip developer said he still finds himself calling his project by its old name.

"I'll be doing it for a few months," Wynn said.

He expects to name the property's French restaurant Le Reve.

The golf course will probably carry his name, he said, joining the resort (Wynn Las Vegas), his company (Wynn Resorts), his company's logo (Wynn's signature), his planned Macau resort (Wynn Macau), his art gallery (Wynn Collection) and Nasdaq stock market symbol (WYNN).

Wynn Resorts shares closed at $17.48 Tuesday, unchanged.
