New Witness Found for Venetian Overdose Lawsuit15 May 2002LAS VEGAS – As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal: “An attorney for the family of Ecstasy overdose victim Danielle Heird claims a recently discovered witness will significantly bolster the family's lawsuit against The Venetian and the nightclub C2K, where Heird partied the night before she died. ”Heird, 21, died of an Ecstasy overdose in the summer of 2000. Her family sued The Venetian as well as business entities of C2K, which is inside the resort, alleging her death could have been prevented. ”On Tuesday, Heird family attorney Brent Bryson said a former Venetian resort employee has given Las Vegas private investigator Tom Dillard a taped statement that will help the case. That witness, according to Bryson, told Dillard she was dispatched to aid an ailing Heird at a restroom inside The Venetian near C2K. ”…Bryson said the statement `completely contradicts’ accounts from The Venetian. ”…The Venetian has previously blamed the death at least in part on Heird's decision to take illegal drugs. ”…Bryson said in addition to contradicting The Venetian's accounts, the witness' statement supports the lawsuit's premise that The Venetian was negligent in its training and hiring of security, a factor he said contributed to Heird's death. ”Bryson said the former employee who gave the statement to Dillard was not trained to work in security, yet she was assigned to do so when responding to Heird's illness…” |
