New Westminster depends on casino profits

NEW WESTMINSTER, British Columbia – As reported by the Burnaby News Leader: "New Westminster's plan to wean itself off of casino profits will take longer than expected.

"The city is looking to use approximately $2.4 million of the profits to run the city in 2007. That's roughly the same amount the city used last year, when council committed itself to gradually turning off the casino profit tap to fund its operating budget.

"'There was a really heavy reliance on the casino funds for the operating [budget], which we're slowly trying to wean ourselves off of – and we are. That's going to be a long term project,' said Coun. Bill Harper…"
