New tack urged for California casino measure

CALIFORNIA -- As reported by the Argus-Courier: "Former Petaluma City Councilman Mike Healy and other opponents of the proposed Rohnert Park casino are crafting a proposed ballot measure that would ask Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the state Legislature to pay close attention to how negative impacts would be mitigated.

"...A casino with around 5,000 slot machines would present a significantly greater problem than a casino with some 2,000 slot machines, Healy said, adding that according to the standard used in the gaming industry, a slot machine generates an average of 13.6 vehicle trips per day.

"Healy and other casino opponents recently met with Sonoma County Supervisor Mike Kerns, and are hoping that he will again ask the full board to discuss putting an advisory measure on the November ballot..."
