New Seminole Casino Gets Rave Reviews

HOLLYWOOD, Florida – As reported by the Florida Sun-Sentinel: "The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino opened Tuesday with a private bash for South Florida big shots and a public spectacle for thousands of anxious locals who practically knocked down the front doors trying to get in.

"As phony Kiss rockers in full makeup strolled around on stilts between funny-looking Elvises and scantily clad dancers, locals got a look at South Florida's first foray into Las Vegas-style entertainment. The $250 million, 12-story complex in west Hollywood got rave reviews for its rock-and-roll theme and surprising dignity.

"…'We were expecting a good opening, but this is much more than even we thought,' said Seminole Tribal Councilor Max Osceola.

"…Players on Tuesday experienced everything a Las Vegas casino offers except what many gamblers really want, a decent chance of winning.

"The casino has no blackjack, roulette or craps tables, which give gamblers the best odds, and it doesn't have the same type of slot machines available in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Biloxi, Miss., or at major Indian casinos around the country. And unlike Atlantic City, which plainly posts the payouts for its slot machines, the Hard Rock won't disclose what percentage is won by customers.

"…For the most part, customers weren't deterred and blamed the state for not allowing the tribe to have blackjack and other games.

"…Despite the massive traffic jams and occasional glitches with the computerized machines, customers seemed happy…"
