New Road Runner Casino opens

PUEBLO OF SANDIA, New Mexico -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Whew! That was fast.

Sandia Resort and Casino has just completed adding 25,000 square feet to its gaming space and 200 new penny video and reel slots with the addition of the new Road Runner Casino inside the current facility. The new casino surrounds the new Kowira Grill, serving hamburgers, burritos, Frito pies and other New Mexican fare.

Inspired by the speedy roadrunner state bird, the Road Runner Casino opened to the public on Thursday, February 14 with a very special ribbon cutting ceremony by newly-appointed Tribal Governor Robert B. Montoya and a Tribal Council dedication ceremony .

"It's exciting to be a part of a casino that's expanding so quickly," said Montoya. "Most of our guests typically play the penny slots more than anything else. It only makes sense that Sandia would provide them more space and the promise of fast tournaments, fast food and fast service without sacrificing the quality that we are known for."

To kick-off the Road Runner Casino's grand opening, the month-long Speedy Slot Tournaments will start on February 17 and run through March 16. The tournaments promise guests a chance to win a share of $1,000 each day with a chance to win at noon, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., along with the chance to win a bonus for the highest overall tournament score.

As well, every Thursday, starting opening day through March 27, 2008, the Casino's Peak Rewards Player's Club members will receive four times their points while playing the new slots machines in the Road Runner Casino and using their Club Card. Club members will earn two times their points when using their Club Card in other areas of the Casino.

The new Road Runner Casino and Kowira Grill is part of Sandia Resort and Casino's aggressive 25,000-square-foot expansion plan, which includes the High Limit Room and the exclusive VIP Governor's Room that opened in October 2007.
