New Mexico Track, Casino Groundbreaking Set

HOBBS, New Mexico – As reported by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal: "The effort to bring horse racing to Hobbs is entering the final stretch this week with a formal groundbreaking scheduled for the $43 million Zia Park Race Track & Casino.

"The first spadeful of earth will be turned during a 11 a.m. ceremony Friday at the track site southwest of the Lea County Event Center.

"The casino portion of the entertainment complex is scheduled to open Nov. 15. The track should begin operations in November 2005, according to a news release from the park's owners, Zia Partners…"
