New Mexico Town Considers Track, Casino

NEW MEXICO – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Officials from Tucumcari, New Mexico, a city of about 6,000 residents located between Amarillo, Texas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Interstate 40, are considering developing a racetrack and casino to promote tourism.

"…In April, Governor Bill Richardson visited the Tucumcari area and told residents that officials should look into the bringing a racetrack and casino to the area. Soon afterward, local investors began meeting with city planners.

"…New Mexico has four racetracks with casinos—Sunland Park, Ruidoso Downs, SunRay Park, and the Downs at Albuquerque, which have proved popular because expanded gaming in neighboring states such as Texas is illegal…"
