New Mexico Commission to Hear Bids12 November 2003ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – As reported by the Associated Press: "In the language of the sport, the race to see who gets to open a new racetrack in Hobbs is nearing the finish line. "The New Mexico Racing Commission will hear from the four groups seeking the license during public hearings today and Thursday. The commission plans to award the license Nov. 19. "The groups seeking the license are headed by Gerald Peters, a Santa Fe art dealer and businessman; Ken Newton, former owner of The Downs at Santa Fe; Nevada businessman Shawn Scott and R.D. Hubbard, the owner of Ruidoso Downs. "…The commission earlier this year hired a New Jersey consultant to evaluate the four applications. Whitesand Consulting concluded last week that the four groups either have extensive experience in racing and gaming, or have put together a management team with such expertise. "…The four proposals contain estimated total project costs that range from $24.1 million by Scott's group to $51.5 million from Peters…" |
