New Mexico Casino Sued in Drunken-Driving Crash22 September 2004SANTA FE, New Mexico -- As reported by the Associated Press: "A Las Cruces, N.M., family is suing the Mescalero Apaches' Mountain Gods Casino and Resort and four New Mexico liquor distributors over a drunken-driving crash. "Joe and Peggy Chavez contend a round-the-clock liquor promotion at the Mescalero Apache Travel Center caused the crash, in which a drunken casino employee crashed into their sport utility vehicle in May 2003. "The employee, 23-year-old George Starr, died in the crash. Joe Chavez suffered a broken leg and Peggy Chavez had numerous broken bones and internal injuries. "...The lawsuit claims Starr had been drinking between 2 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. at the travel center casino during its grand opening celebration, which featured all-night alcohol service..." |
