New Mexico Casino Ad Irks Competitors

NEW MEXICO – As reported by the Associated Press: "A newspaper ad by Isleta Casino zinging other Albuquerque-area Indian casinos has irked the competition since tribal casinos traditionally have presented a united front.

"The casino market around New Mexico's largest city has become increasingly competitive in recent years, with Isleta on Albuquerque's south flank, Laguna Pueblo's Route 66 casino west of the city and casinos owned by Sandia, Santa Ana and San Felipe pueblos to the north.

"The language in Isleta Casino & Resort's three-quarter-page advertisement in Friday's Albuquerque Journal quoted the slogans of competitors, then commented on each.

"`Santa Ana Star -- 'No talk, just winners!' We think 'All Talk' is more like it!' the ad read.

"…Santa Ana Star casino manager Phil Gonzales said Isleta broke an unwritten rule and was `rude and disrespectful.'

"…Sandia, Santa Ana and San Felipe spokesmen said Monday they aren't planning attack ads of their own…"
