New Jersey Slot Panel Proposed

NEW JERSEY – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "A proposed New Jersey Senate committee that would oversee legislation involving the state's casino, horse racing, and tourism industries would make a study of slot machines at racetracks a major priority.

"Senate President Richard Codey (D-Essex) proposed the new Wagering, Tourism, and Historic Preservation Committee on Tuesday, and the Senate will vote on its formation January 26. Senator Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex) would chair the committee.

"…Before Codey and other supporters of expanded gaming at tracks can broach that issue, the Legislature must decide the fate of the subsidy New Jersey tracks receive from the casino industry…"
