New Jersey Racing Industry Still Want Slots25 February 2004NEW JERSEY – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Despite a deal that would have the Atlantic City casino industry paying a $20-million subsidy to the racing industry annually for the next four years, horse racing supporters are pushing for a 2006 vote on a constitutional amendment to allow racetrack slot machines when the casino subsidy deal expires. "…'Video lottery terminals and casino gambling are on the march across the country, and we simply can't ignore that reality,' said Senator Barbara Buono (D-Edison), who chairs the Senate panel. 'We can't control what our sister states do, but we can control our interests in New Jersey.'…" |
