New Jersey Governor Pushing Slots at Tracks

NEW JERSEY – As reported by the Associated Press: "New Jersey's incoming acting governor is pushing a plan to introduce slot machines to at least one of New Jersey's horse racing tracks.

"State Sen. Richard J. Codey plans to introduce a budget next year that would count on $275 million from the new slot machine revenue to help close a projected $4 billion budget deficit, The Record of Bergen County reported in Thursday's newspapers.

"…The measure comes in part as a response to moves to put slot machines or video lottery terminals at tracks in the border states of Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York.

"...Codey has long been a proponent of putting some casino-style gambling at the Meadowlands as a way to boost sagging horse racing purses…"
