New Jersey Gaming Division Shut After Fire

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "An electrical fire at a downtown office building has disrupted the computer systems of the casino industry's two main regulatory agencies and forced one of them to temporarily shut down its Atlantic City headquarters.

"The state Division of Gaming Enforcement is a major tenant in the privately owned Citi Center office building, which was rocked Saturday night by an explosion and fire that originated in a large electrical room on the second floor, authorities said. No one was injured.

"The DGE, which serves as the investigative arm of the casino industry, occupies four floors of the office complex. It also uses the building as a test laboratory for new slot machines and other gaming equipment before they are put into service at the city's 12 casinos.

"Thomas Auriemma, DGE director, said the division's approximately 180 employees in Atlantic City have been temporarily relocated to other sites in town, including the Casino Control Commission headquarters on Tennessee Avenue, the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort and the Showboat Casino Hotel. Other workers have been shifted to the DGE's offices in Trenton…"
