New Jersey Commission Fed Up with Promoter

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Of all the crafty moves Don King has made in his 30 years as a boxing promoter, perhaps none rivals his maneuvers to sign casino partnerships for big fights here - without holding a casino license.

"King last held a casino service-industry license in 1994, but over the past five years has managed to promote four world-championship fight cards here with Bally's Atlantic City and Caesars Atlantic City.

"He has done it through a pattern of reapplying for a license - a procedure that allows him to resume business with casinos - and then withdrawing his application when the Division of Gaming Enforcement, or DGE, intensifies its background check.

"…DGE Director Thomas Auriemma said he wants King barred from casino business until he actually has a license.

"…Whether King tries to come back remains to be seen. If so, he'll have to confront DGE questions about a bribery scandal.

"…According to his petition, King wants to stop the licensing process because his personal lawyer directed him not to answer questions about his role in the bribery scandal involving Robert Lee Sr., the former International Boxing Federation president…"
