New Jersey Casino Help Tracks26 November 2003ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Casino executives are working with the governor on a casino-funded plan to bail out the horse-racing industry in exchange for removing the threat of slot machines at racetracks. "David Jonas, among those who met last week with the McGreevey administration, said several ideas are on the table. "…`Clearly, we don't want VLTs (slotlike video lottery terminals at the tracks) and clearly the horse-racing industry needs to survive, so we're really working with the administration for the betterment of the two industries,' Jonas said. "Any industry payoff would include state incentives for casinos to build more hotel rooms here, he said. "…Jonas said nobody is trying to extort money from the casinos. Dealing with racetrack slots is a reality these days, whether it's in New Jersey or elsewhere, he said…" |
