New Jersey Bill: Casino Stay Open During State Shutdown

TRENTON, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Casinos would stay open through a shutdown in state government, under a bill introduced by state Sen. William Gormley, R-Atlantic, and Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew, D-Cape May, Cumberland, Atlantic.

"The bill is a response to last year's budget negotiations, when Gov. James E. McGreevey threatened to shut down all state operations over Fourth of July weekend - including the operation of casinos - if the Legislature did not approve a budget. A tax increase on casino revenue was one of the most contentious proposals in the budget.

"Under the bill, the Casino Control Commission and the state Division of Gaming Enforcement would continue to get paid through state-collected casino fees in the event of a shutdown…"
