New Hampshire Slots Could Raise $180 Million a Year

CONCORD, New Hampshire – As reported by the New Hampshire Telegraph: "The state would raise at least $180 million a year from legalizing slot machines at four racetracks and three resorts, even if Massachusetts made betting legal at two locations, according to a consultant for the gambling industry.

"Paul Girvan with the Innovation Group said the company's preliminary analysis concluded the state's revenue stream would survive border competition.

"…Laconia Republican Rep. James Fitzgerald is chairman of the 10-person study panel created last spring.

"Fitzgerald said his group needs more time to analyze the pros and cons than the Nov. 1 deadline it faces under state law and intends to ask House Speaker Douglas Scamman, R-Stratham, for an extension.

"Slot machine gambling legislation already faced a steep hurdle as the Senate rejected it by a 3-1 margin last spring…"
